Addis Ababa October 30/2017 Ethiopia has become a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), in particular that of the Medical Laboratory and Testing Laboratory.
The membership enables the products and services of the country to easily access international markets.
According to Ethiopian National Accreditation Office (ENAO) Public Relation Director Nigusse Kibru, Ethiopia's full membership was announced yesterday at the joint meeting of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation and International Accreditation Forum underway in Canada.
The country can also benefit from the credible and technically acceptable products and services to further improve bilateral and multilateral trade relationship.
ILAC membership is of vital importance for the promotion of the country's international trade and investment, the Director added.
ENAO Medical Laboratory Team Leader, Meseret Tesema said joining ILAC is one of the indicators of the country’s journey towards multi-sectoral development.
According to her, becoming a full member of ILOC will further create confidence to offer standard products at international level.
It is to be recalled the country has become a member of the African Accreditation Cooperation in September 2017.
Ethiopia was an affiliate member of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation since August 2011.
ILAC is the international organization for accreditation bodies operating and involved with the accreditation of conformity assessments bodies, including calibration laboratories, testing laboratories, medical testing laboratories and inspection bodies.
