Addis Ababa August 07/2017 Close cooperation of Ethiopia, Confederation of African Football (CAF), and Fédération International Football Association (FIFA) is crucial to boost Ethiopia’s football, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad said.
Following his meeting with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn this afternoon, the President said “everybody recognizes that Ethiopia is a very historical country and we all know the Ethiopian CAF President [Yidnekachew Tesema].”
Speaking about the facilities he visited in Addis Ababa, Ahmad said “the government of Ethiopia has been investing a lot of money for football."
The President, however, stressed the importance of close cooperation of regional and international bodies to improve Ethiopia’s football.
He said “the government of Ethiopia, CAF, and FIFA have to work very closely to help the federation; and the federation has to be strong to manage and organize football in this country.”
According to Ahmad, “the government is very ready and they have already started acting. I am sure that we can work together and do something for the youth in this country.”
PM Hailemaraim said on his part that Ethiopia has been working to develop football by particularly building international standard stadiums, among others.
The Premier, who noted that Ethiopia was one of the founders of African football, added that the government has therefore given priority to the sector to regain its status and build healthy citizens.
He has urged CAF’s President to consider Ethiopia on continental activities, including hosting tournaments and conferences.
Ahmad became the seventh CAF President in the body's 60-year history during the March 2017 election which was held in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.
