Body of late Miruts laid to rest Featured

Addis Ababa January  02/2017 The body of the late Miruts Yifter, Ethiopia's running legend was laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Cathedral on Sunday.

Senior government officials, athletes, the public and other guests were present at the burial ceremony of Miruts who was dubbed "Yifter the Shifter"for his unique distance running quality. 

Mirutse won his first bronze in 10,000 meters at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

At the 1980 Moscow Olympics, he claimed his gold medals in both 10,000 and 5,000 meters.

He also won gold and bronze in 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively, at the All Africa Games in Lagos, Nigeria in 1973.

The late Miruts also won gold medals in 10,000 and 5,000 meters at the World Championship in 1977 and 1979, respectively.

Miruts, 72, passed away in Canada.
