Bahir Dar Feburary13/2018 Ethiopia is preparing to provide civil registration services for Ethiopians living outside the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed.

Director of verification of documents at the Ministry Kidanemariam Gidey told ENA that the registration will be conducted through Ethiopian embassies and consulate offices.

The program is aimed at offering services for users without the need to come to Ethiopia to get services related to birth, death, marriage, divorce and adoption.

Documents used for the registration of these vital events were distributed to 56 Ethiopian missions abroad at the beginning of this Ethiopian fiscal year, he said.

Honorary logbooks used for registration of the events as well as certificates to be provided for customers are among the distributed documents, Kidanemariam added.

Deputy Director General of the Federal Vital Events Registration Agency, Tamiru Ginbeto said that documenting these events would help to obtain vital statistical information that could be used for various purposes.

The Agency has earlier provided training for those who would reportedly engaged in the administration and provision of the services.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimates that some three million nationals and Ethiopian origin are residing abroad.
