Afar October 31/2017 The regional capital of Afar, Semera, has finalized preparations to host the 12th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day that will be celebrated next month, Deputy Chief Administrator of the region said.
Under the motto “Our Constitution for the renaissance", the day is going to be celebrated in the "Homeland of Lucy".
Representatives of nations, nationalities and peoples of regions and city administrations are assessing the level of preparedness of Afar region to host the day.
Deputy Chief Administrator of Afar, Awol Arba said the government and the people of the regional state have been working hard to make the celebration of the event warm and colorful.
“I am happy to assure you that the government and people of Afar have completed all preparations and waiting for the day to welcome the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia to the land of human origin”, he announced.
According to Awol, the event is a big opportunity to introduce the culture of the Afar people to the rest of the world the day and the untapped huge investment potential of the region.
House of Federation representative, Freweyni Gebre-Egziabher said on her part the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day has many advantages for a host region as it can boost infrastructures and attract investors to the region, among others.
Besides, it plays crucial role in strengthening people-to-people relations, encourage cultural exchange and create understanding, she added.
The Representatives of Nations, Nationalities and Peoples told ENA that they were impressed with the preparation and the hospitality of the Afar people.
Some 480 Afar traditional houses constructed from local materials and 85 percent of the 30,000 capacity Semera Stadium will be completed on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Nations, nationalities and Peoples Day to be marked on December 8 at Semera. More than 500 youth volunteers are ready to welcome guests.
