Five ESL Officials Apprehended for Alleged Corruption

Addis Ababa September 01/2017 Five officials who have been working at different levels of responsibility in the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Service Enterprise (ESL) were apprehended because of alleged corrupt practices.

Three of the detained officials were Deputy CEOs, while the remaining two were working as department and financial heads.

The detainees are deputy CEO of port and terminal services, Desalegn Gebrehiwot; deputy CEO of corporate services, Sisay Abaferda; deputy CEO of shipping services, Alemu Ambaye; plan and business development head, Siraj Abdulahi; and finance head, Samuel Melaku. 

Minister of Government Communication Office, Dr Negeri Lencho told ENA that the move displayed the continued commitment of the government in combating corruption.

He said that the continuity to apprehended suspected individuals is intended to ensure accountability.

 Since the launch of the crackdown, the government has apprehended more than 55 officials, brokers and investors alleged with corrupt practices.
