Nile Day to be Celebrated Next Week in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa February 14/2018  Ethiopia will host the 12th Nile Day Celebrations next week, according to Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity.

 Members of Nile initiative countries, Water Ministers of Nile Basin countries, development partners, members of civil societies, Nile Basin Initiative leaders and experts as well as other stakeholders will take part in the celebrations to be held on February 22,2018 .

 The Nile Day is celebrated in commemoration of the establishment of the Nile Basin Initiative in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on February 22,1999.

The participants will discuss about ways of utilizing the common resources along the river, challenges anticipated, and the way forward.

A Symposium that focuses on sustainable management and development policies on Nile River will be held under the theme: “Alternatives that consolidate political commitment for successful cooperation on Nile River”.

High government officials, water ministers of Nile Basin countries, and invited guests are expected to take part in the symposium.

Ethiopia, Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda are Nile Basin member countries.
