Addis Ababa August 10/2017 Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn has received today a message from President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Louise Mushyikiwabo handed over the message.
Prime minister congratulated Rwanda for its peaceful election.
The Premier and the Foreign Minister have exchanged views on ways of boosting trade and investment as well as sharing experiences in various areas.
Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister, Mushyikiwabo told reports that the message recalls the agreement reached between the two countries and the cooperation needed to do much more.
Ethiopia and Rwanda have decided to cooperate in various fields during the visit of Prime Minister Hailemariam to Kigali early this year, minister noted.
“We are going to scale up and upgrade our partnership, particularly in areas economic and infrastructure”, the Minister said.
Rwanda has just completed a very important electoral exercise and President Paul Kagame is re-elected for the next seven years, she said, adding that “we want to refresh out of the election to bring back that discussion between the two countries.”
Mushyikiwabo stated that Rwanda and Ethiopia “have many areas of cooperation in our plan.” The two countries need to do more to implement the various agreements.
Both countries have been cooperating in areas of defense and capacity building over the past years and 11 agreements were concluded to bolster ties during Prime Minister Hailemariam's visit in 2017, according to her.
The agreements signed include extradition treaty, mutual legal assistance, communication, information and media, youth and sports, tourism and health, among others.
Rwanda opened its embassy in Addis Ababa in 1978 and Ethiopia opened an embassy in Kigali in the presence of Prime Minister Hailemariam in April, 2017.
