House Removes Immunity of One MP Featured

Addis Ababa August 04/2017 The House of Peoples Representative on Friday removed the immunity of Alemayoh Gencho, who is also State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation for alleged corrupt practices.

The House lifted the immunity of the MP following the request from the Federal Attorney General.

Attorney General Getachew Ambaye told the House that Alemayoh has allegedly granted a 20 million USD contract agreement for a foreign company without legal auction.

Besides, the suspect had allegedly disbursed 20 million USD to the same company knowing that it had not fully completed its job.

The suspect is also alleged for the act of receiving half a million Birr in bribery and arranged to have covered his expenses during a one month vacation to America.

Accordingly, the house has fully endorsed the request of the federal attorney general’s request for the removal of the immunity of the deputy minister.

The measure taken is part of the national in-depth evaluation to root out corruption from the nation.

So far, the Federal Attorney General has detained more than 40 suspects including government officials, business persons and accomplices on alleged corruption scandal.

In related news ambassadors were appointed for different ministerial posts

Accordingly, the house has endorsed the motion for appointing

  1. Kebede Chane- as Minister of Federal Affairs and Pastoral Area Development
  2. Dr. Tilaye Gete – as Minister of Education 
  3. Moges Balcha- as Minister of Ethiopian Revenues and Costumes Authority

According to the profiles presented, the appointed ministers had been loyal, industrious, and successful in serving their country at all level of their duties.

The newly appointed ministers replace the other officials recently appointed for ambassadorial post abroad.
