Addis Ababa May24/2017 President Mulatu Teshome and Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn have congratulated Dr. Tedros Adhanom, on his being elected as the first African to lead the World Health Organization (WHO).
President Mulatu, who congratulated all nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia, added that this historic election epitomizes the outstanding changes Ethiopians have accomplished over the years on social and economic issues holding their hands together.
Prime Minister Hailemariam expressed his congratulatory message to all Ethiopians at home and abroad as well as friends of Ethiopia.
The Premier noted that Dr Tedros' election is a proof of Ethiopia's notable recognition by the global community.
Noting his achievement as part of Ethiopia's success story in the diplomatic arena, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu dubbed the election as African victory.
Dr. Tedros was able to garner an outstanding support on the basis of his firm position to shake up an agency seen as needing major reform, the Minister added.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health and Government Communication Affairs Office have also expressed their joy at the election of Dr. Tedros.
State Minister of Health Dr. Amir Aman said the elected Director-General has served the ministry as a health professional and a Minister for 27 years before this shinning victory.
Government Communication Affairs Office on its part expressed its gratitude to organizations, the African Union, and individual as well as countries that gave their voice to Dr. Tedros.
