Security Council Extends Mandate of UN Interim Force in Abyei for Six months Featured

Addis Ababa May18/2017 The Security Council has endorsed the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Abyei for six months, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.        

Ethiopia is the only country that provided peace keeping mission to Abyei which demonstrates the country’s commitment to bring peace and stability to the region, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to United Nations, Tekeda Alemu, said.

Speaking at the Security Council meeting, the Ambassador noted that Ethiopia has been working with various members of the Council to keep peace in the region.

The member of the Security Council praised Ethiopia for its effort to stabilize Abyei.

In its four months in the United Nations Security Council, Ethiopia has been contributing a lot to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and the world at large.
