IGAD, Sweden Collaborating to Promote Regional Peace Featured

Addis Ababa May 15/2017 Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, Ambassador Mahboub Maalim and Sweden’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Jan Sadek, have signed cooperation agreement.

The agreement is a continuation of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) support for the implementation of the IGAD Regional Peace and Security Strategy and implementation of the Institutional Strengthening Action Plan (ISAP), according to the IGAD website.

The financial contribution under agreement is reportedly 1.6 million USD for the year 2017.

Upon the signing of the agreement, both sides discussed peace and security issues in the region as well as the future partnership to continuously support the regional agenda on peace and security.

Sweden is a long-term partner of IGAD that has been significantly contributing to the implementation of the above two areas and country specific peace processes in the IGAD region.
