Addis Ababa April 20, 2017 A consultative meeting aimed to enhance the participation of Civic Society Organizations (CSOs) in the promotion of good governance, will be held in Addis Ababa on Friday, Office of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRDF) disclosed.
Abulaziz Mohammed, head of political parties and civic organizations cluster at Center for Democracy, Office of the Prime Minister, said the participation of CSOs should be enhanced to realizing development, ensuring good governance and promotion of democratic order in the country.
The government recognizes the capacity of civil society organization to promote consensus on issues of national importance, he added.
Noting that civic society organizations are usually considered as “schools of democracy” due to their values like mutual respect and tolerance, he said that efforts will be exerted to enable them work neutrally.
Abdulaziz noted that capacity building activities will be undertaken to enhance the role of civil society organizations in their ability to participate in all development activities.
The consultation forum will create an opportunity for joint undertakings to realize the second Growth and Transformation Plan, which is under implementation.
Discussion papers from civil society organizations, government offices, scholars with neutral views will be presented on the forum.
Five-hundred representatives drawn from civil society organizations, government agencies, scholars, educational and media institutions will participate in the forum.
