Addis Ababa october 16/2017 Ethiopia will host 2017 Global Green Growth Week Conference starting tomorrow.
At a joint statement Environment, Forest and Climate Minister Dr. Gemedo Dalle and Global Green Growth Institute Director-General Frank Rijsberman gave today, Rijsberman said Ethiopia has played a leading role in establishing green economy.
He appreciated Ethiopia’s effort to expand hydro-electric power as a means of energy source which contributes less carbon emission to the environment.
The Director-General stated that his organization is working to bring green finance to Ethiopia.
Rijsberman explained that Ethiopia will receive USD 45 million from Global Climate Fund and contribute USD 5 million to enhance irrigation.
“The project is set to benefit 330,000 people directly and nearly 1 million people indirectly,” he added.
Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Dr. Gemedo Dalle said the implementation of polices and strategies related to green economy has helped Ethiopia host the Global Green Growth Week 2017 Conference.
He further explained that Ethiopia has succeeded in absorbing 5.5 million tons of carbon dioxide by developing its forestry.
The Global Green Growth Week 2017 Conference will be held from October 17- 20 under the theme “Unlocking Africa’s Green Growth Potential”.
