Addis Ababa April 13/2018 Small farmers across the country have secured over 306 million quintals of grain during the last main harvesting year, registering about 15.7 million quintals over the previous year, according to Central Statistics Agency (CSA).
CSA post-harvest survey shows the harvest was collected from 12.6 million hectares of land covered by the small farmers.
According to the survey, of the total yield the share of cereals and crops was 87.4 percent, legume accounted for 9.7 percent, and oil seeds 2.8 percent.
Central Statistics Agency Deputy Director-General, Amare Legesse told journalists that the survey was conducted with GPS and other technologies by deploying specially trained experts to get accurate results.
According to him, the survey does not include big and medium commercial farms and irrigated farms.
The survey also shows that the use of agricultural technology inputs, including fertilizers and agricultural mechanization, has increased.
