Addis Ababa March 14/2018 The Office of the National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam said it plans to collect over 100 million birr in the GERD Bond Week that starts on Sunday March 19, 2018.
Media and Communication Director at the Office, Hailu Abrham called on the Ethiopian people to actively participate in the fund raising campaign that will take place all over the country.
The bond selling program will be held in tents in Addis Ababa, it was learned.
The Office is working with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and the Development Bank of Ethiopia to carry out the sale of the bond widely, the Director stated.
Hailu called on the public to purchase bonds and give them as gifts to children, family members and friends as well as relatives.
According to the Director, soil and water conservation works will be conducted along with the bond selling program in farming and pastoral areas.
Farmers and pastoralists have been contributing about 79 billion birr worth labor annually by carrying out soil conservation work for about 30 days in a year to make the dam serve for a long period.
Over 100 million birr was raised last Ethiopian year in the GERD bond week, it was learned.
Some 64 percent of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is completed.
