Addis Ababa December 07/2017 A 2.8-million Euros project, which aims at improving and structuring sustainable and inclusive value chains in Oromia region, was launched here today.
The project that benefits 42 cooperative associations, with some 16,000 members and value chain actors, will be implemented in 20 woredas of Oromia Regional State.
Italian Agency for Development Cooperation Head, Ginevra Letizia, said on the occasion the main goal of the project is poverty reduction and improving living conditions of the rural community with a particular focus on gender and nutritional aspects.
According to her, improvement in the productivity of durum wheat, processing tomato and horticulture, structuring economic relationship between producers and agro-industry, and strengthening women’s role and participation are among the expected outcomes of the project.
Oromia Finance and Economic Cooperation Bureau Head, Tolessa Gedefa said the project will help the regional government’s activity in enhancing sustainable value chains development through capacity building, increasing productivity and strengthening cooperatives.
He stated that Italy has been contributing a lot in rural development of Arsi and Bale zones and this project is a good opportunity in further enhancing productivity.
