Addis Ababa August 07/2017 Some 60 percent of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is reportedly completed.
Chairman of the Ethiopian Electric Power Management Board and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael has visited the civil, hydro and electromechanical activities of the dam.
After the visit, Dr. Debretsion has conferred with officials of the two contracting companies and the consultant about the ongoing activities of the dam.
The Board Chairman noted that the civil and mechanical works of the dam are progressing at same pace as in the dry season during this rainy season. He appreciated the caution made with regard to flooding. He also lauded the commitment of the workers and contractors who are fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the public and the government.
Stating the effective execution of the construction of the dam, Dr. Debretsion added that the power generation chapter is closer.
Power generation will begin within two years as disclosed by the government last week, he recalled.
Activities have been geared accordingly to meet the plan, the Chairman said.
The construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam kicked off six years ago.
