Addis Ababa July 14/2017 The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange Authority (ECX) announced that it has started a new approach where coffee grower farmers can directly export their products.
The Authority on Wednesday announced the launching of a new coffee trading system that will benefit coffee producing farmers starting from 8 July 2017.
Farmers who have over 2.5 hectare of coffee plantation and coffee processing machines as well as capable of using technologies are entitled to export their products.
According to the new trading system, coffee grower farmers and smallholder providers can directly export coffee beans or supply to exporters.
CEO of the Authority, Ermias Eshetu said the new system will benefit farmers by minimizing the supply chain.
Previously, growers were not beneficial from their products since they were expected to supply products through brokers.
