Ministry reviewing gaps in marketing agricultural products Featured

Addis Ababa  January 11/2017  The Ministry of Trade said it is reviewing operational irregularities that have become obstacles to marketing agricultural products in the country.

The Ministry warned that it will take legal action against 45 coffee exporters who failed to export the commodity they purchased.

Speaking to ENA, Ayana Zewede, State Minister of Trade said lack of good governance pertaining to marketing the products will be thoroughly investigated.

Ayana said sorting out difficulties connected with export of coffee which is one of the major export commodities of the country will be prioritized.

The Ministry has reportedly established teams to investigate into the causes of the problems.

Measures have been taken on leadership and management personnel after verifying ethical issues related to delivery of agricultural commodities, standardization and sampling.

Ayana also mentioned efforts to modernize the marketing system by promoting the use of weighing scales, sampling mechanism and others related to the efficient operation of the sector.

Seven warehouses have already been constructed with close proximity to producers while new ware houses in Hawassa, Humera and Lekempt will begin operation this fiscal year.
