Addis Ababa March 07/2018 Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultation which is aimed at deepening inclusive relations between the countries.

Foreign Affairs Minister Workneh Gebeyehu and his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan signed the agreement today at the conclusion of a joint ministerial commission meeting.

Workneh said on the occasion, “We are delighted to host our brothers and sisters from UAE to this Second Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting.”

Ethiopia offers the right mix of opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership for investment and also provides disciplined and affordable labor force as well as abundant natural resources and the cheapest energy resource, he added.

Since the establishment of the formal diplomatic relation between Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates in 1973, the countries have been witnessing a new dynamism and strengthening ties in various fields.

Workneh stated in this connection that the catalyst role played by the establishment of the office of Dubai Chamber of commerce in Ethiopia is a notable one.

The total investment of UAE in Ethiopia is close to 11 billion birr with 135 active projects running.

“We should redouble our effort to further enhance our engagement in trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people interaction with a view to deepening and solidifying our friendly relations and mutual cooperation,” the Minister underlined.

The trade volume between Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates reached 500 million USD in 2016.

UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan said his country wants the draft labor agreement, aviation and visa process under negotiations to get finalized soon.

The Joint Ministerial Commission was established in 2015 and the first ministerial commission was held in Abu Dhabi.
