Addis Ababa September 11/2017  The bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and India is expected to move forward in the coming Ethiopian New Year, to start on Monday, the country's Ambassador to Ethiopia said.  

 Ethiopia and India which have strong bilateral ties in various areas are now looking forward for better cooperation.

 In exclusive interview with ENA, Ambassador Anurag Strivastava said that the bilateral ties between the two countries would be elevated to new era of cooperation.         

“We hope and are confident that, this year will mark further movement towards development of our bilateral relationship toward achieving its full potential,” he added.

 "This is going to be my first New Year day in Ethiopia after coming here in Ethiopia" the ambassador said “I believe that this is a significant event in Ethiopian calendar”.

 “I would like to wish to all my Ethiopian friends very happy new year, may this year bring joy and prosperity to all of you”.

 Bilateral relationship between the two countries goes back to several decades. “This year marks, 70 years of bilateral relationship between India and Ethiopia; and therefore this is special to both of our countries.”

 “We have several areas of cooperation that we are looking forward and there are a lot of potential because the two countries have a lot of complimentary and synergies in bilateral relations”, the ambassador added.

 The Ambassador noted that energy, health, and education mainly ICT are among the major cooperation areas.

 Noting that there is a great potential in solar energy in Ethiopia, the Ambassador said that the two countries could cooperate to harness this potential.

 As large number of Ethiopian patients going to India to get treatment, he said that his country could see on how to build capacity of Ethiopian health sector.

 India is among the top investors in Ethiopia, mainly in the manufacturing and agriculture sectors.

 Ethiopia, which follows a unique calendar, celebrates its New Year on 11th of September but lies on the 12th every four years.

A gap of 7 – 8 years between the Ethiopian and Gregorian Calendars resulted from an alternative calculation in determining the date of the Annunciation.

Addis Ababa September 11/2017 “We are defeating our long rooted arch-enemy - poverty - since the beginning of the third Ethiopian millennium and we will continue to do so”, said Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn.

 The Premier addressed tens of thousands of Ethiopians gathered Sunday night at the millennium hall to celebrate the 2010 Ethiopian New Year.

 Recalling that the country has witnessed an average of 10 percent growth over the past more than ten years, Hailemariam said all Ethiopians should further advance their strong commitment in achieving the country’s development goals.

 Modernizing agriculture, industrial development, strengthening small and medium enterprises, and attracting FDI are among the priority areas in the New Year, he pointed out.

 He also said that an extensive work will be done to equip the youth with the up to date technologies while creating an abundance job opportunities in urban areas.

 In addition, empowering women and make them active participants of and beneficiaries from the overall development of the country is also continue to be a priority.

 Speaking of politics, the Premier said activities geared towards maintaining the multi-party system and enhance the democratization process will further be continued.      

 The government, as a continuation of its in-depth evaluation, will work to root out any poor governance and rent-seeking attitude, he emphasized.

 Noting that Ethiopians had managed to maintain the unity even during in times of adversity, the Premier urged the public to continue to strengthen the culture of peaceful coexistence and harmony.

 Hailemariam wished that the 2010 Ethiopian Year be a year of peace, unity, and development.
