Addis Ababa May 11/2013 The Water and Energy Ministry said more than 823,000 fuel-efficient biomass stoves were distributed among the public during the last nine months.
Public relation and communication director with the ministry, Bizuneh Tolcha told ENA that the stoves helped to protect forests on nearly 3176 hectares land and also prevent over 220,000 tons carbon emission.
Bizuneh said the stoves enabled to reduce fuel consumption and time as well as helped to prevent different diseases caused by smoke.
Relevant training enabling to produce the stoves was given to professionals and manufacturers drawn from all regions.
Over 3.3 million stoves were distributed among the public during the first half of the Growth and Transformation Plan period.
The Ministry will distribute over 9.4 million stoves among the public until the end of the plan period, he said.
