Jimma March 23/2013 Expansion of educational facilities was undertaken in Jimma Zone, Oromia State with 17 million Birr during the last six months, the zonal education office said.
Planning and project work process team leader with the office, Hafiz Mohammed told ENA that the expansion work was carried out in collaboration with the public.
Accordingly, 498 additional classrooms were constructed while 730 others renovated in primary and secondary schools in 17 woredas of the zone.
A new primary school was also constructed in Sekoru Woreda of the zone, Hafiz said, adding, over 200 residential units were constructed while 6690 student desks fixed for the schools.
The additional classrooms have enrolled 24,900 students.
The public raised over 4.7 million Birr in cash while contributed more than 2.8 million Birr worth materials and labour support valued at 8.7 million Birr for expansion of the educational facilities and to equip them with the necessary materials.
