Addis Ababa March 12/2013 Some 80 million USD is secured from leather and leather products export over the past eight months, the Ethiopian Leather Industry Development Institute said.
Planning and Information Directorate Director with the Institute, Tesfaye Berhanu said on Tuesday that the revenue surpasses by 2.5 million USD that of same period last year.
Some 66.02 million USD of the stated sum was secured from processed leather, 11.49 million USD from footwear
2.07 million USD from gloves and the balance from leather products, Tesfaye said.
Marketing Support Directorate Director with the Institute, Birknesh Gonfa on her part said that better results are planned to be achieved from the sector in the remaining two months.
Birknesh said utmost efforts are underway to improve market system in the sector.
She also said efforts are being exerted to register improved results in technology transfer thereby to supply quality products to the external market.
