Patriarch: Church supports Ethiopia’s endeavours to become middle income

  Addis Ababa March 08/2013 Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church (EOTC) Abune Mathias said the Church will further strengthen development activities to enable the country join the list of middle income countries in the world. Following discussion with Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn here on Friday, the Patriarch told journalists that the Church will support ongoing efforts of the government towards development of the country. The Patriarch also called on followers of the Church to actively participate in development activities in collaboration with other religious institutions. PM Hailemariam on his part stressed the need for the Church to further enhance its ongoing development activities. The Premier said the Church needs to educate in particular youth to actively participate in development activities in the country. PM Hailemariam also urged the Church, which he said has an important place in the history of the country, to strengthen efforts in collaboration with other religious institutions to bring about peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
