Addis Ababa March 04/2013 An expert stressed the need for an appropriate and independent regulatory system and body in the radiation and nuclear energy sector in the country.
Speaking at a five-day training organized in collaboration with the Ethiopian Radiation Protection Authority and the International Atomic Energy Agency here Monday, a Canadian Radiation Technology and Safety Commission Expert, Robert Irwin said that the country needs to have international standard strong, independent and effective regulatory system and body.
Irwin also said that fulfilling the international criteria’s will enable the country to benefit from the technology, knowledge and development outcomes.
Authority Director-General Abdulreazk Oumer on his part said the training is organized in a bid to building the capacity and skills of authority management personnel and other stakeholders.
Abdulreazk also said the training will intensify the regulatory decision making capacity of the various management representatives in the stream for an effective utilization of the sector.
Representatives drawn from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Kality Tsetse Rearing and Irradiation Center, Customs and Revenue Authority , Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office and other stakeholders are taking part in the training.
