Model farmers, semi-pastoralists play key role to increase productivity

  Bahir Dar March 03/2013 Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said the role of model farmers and semi-pastoralists is significant in the efforts to increase productivity. Speaking at the 6th Farmers' Festival in Bahirdar Town or Amhara State here Sunday, PM Hailemariam stressed the need for model farmers and semi-pastoralists to encourage all farmers in the country and help them increase productivity . Hailemariam said encouragement of the late PM Meles Zenawi enabled farmers to become self-sufficient in food production and produce surplus. He said executives at all levels, professionals, and other stakeholders need to give prime attention to integrated agriculture development towards growth of productivity. PM Hailemariam said that natural resources are foundation towards industrial development and stressed the need for strengthened activities on natural resource development. Agriculture Minister, Tefera Derbew on his part said the festival helped to create development heroes every year. State Chief, Ayalew Gobeze on his part said hardworking farmers, investors, professionals and executives at all levels contributed share for the successive economic growth being registered in the country. More than 700 model farmers, development agents and stakeholders of whom 21 per cent are females received awards on the occasion.
