Agency licenses over 57 mln. Birr worth projects

  Bahir dar March 01/2013 Mining and Energy Resource Development Agency of Amhara State said more than 20 investors with over 57 million Birr combined capital have received licenses during the last six months to engage in the mining sector. Public Relation Expert with the Agency, Yohannes Bizuneh told ENA on Friday that 19 of the investors will engage in small-scale mines production while the remaining in silk, sand and gypsum exploration. The number of investors engaged in small-scale mines production exceeded by eight while the amount of capital increased by 39 million Birr compared to that of in the previous year. Meanwhile, the Agency secured over 4.6 million Birr through issuing licenses to more than 840 individuals and associations applied to engage in traditional production of construction materials and other related services. Investment projects in the mining sector have already created more than 9800 jobs for unemployed citizens in the state, he said, adding, 1890 of the beneficiaries are females. Some 180 investors with an aggregated capital of over 568 million Birr had received licenses to engage in the sector in the state since 1996 E.C.
