Public contribute over 7mln. Birr for Grand Dam construction

  Chiro February 25/2013 The public in West Hararge Zone, Oromia State contributed over seven million Birr for construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the zonal government communication affairs office said. The Office told ENA that they provided in donation over 1.2 million Birr of the stated sum while bought over 2.7 million Birr worth bonds for construction of the Dam. The balance was pledged by government employees to buy bonds for the second time for the same purpose. The Dam being constructed in Benishangul Gumuz State will be the largest hydroelectric plant in Africa. Ethiopia covers the entire cost for construction of the Dam, which will have capacity to generate 6000MW. The late PM Meles Zenawi had laid foundation stone for the Dam in April 2011.
