Addis Ababa February 25/2013 Ethiopia has secured more than 288 million US dollars revenue from export of minerals and precious stones during the first six months of this fiscal year, the Ministry of Mines said.
Speaking at the opening of a relevant seminar held here on Monday, Mines State Minister, Tolosa Shagi said the stated sum was obtained from export of gold, tantalum, opal and marble.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Ministry and the Canadian Embassy.
Tolosa said a total of 1.4 billion US dollars revenue was secured from the sector during the first half of the Growth and Transformation Plan period.
The Ministry has issued licenses to more than 250 companies engaged in mineral exploration across the country, he said.
Canadian Ambassador, David Usher said his government is working with the Ministry to build the country's capacity to manage and fully benefit from the sector.
Companies engaged in mineral exploration and mining activities, civil society organizations and stakeholders took part in the half-day seminar on Corporate Social Responsibilities.
