Mizan February 24/2013 Close to 8000 farmers and semi-pastoralists engaged in animal fattening in Bench Majji Zone of South Ethiopia Peoples' State secured over 100 million Birr from sale of over 29,000 fattened animals during the last seven months, the zonal agriculture department said.
The department told ENA that the beneficiaries have managed to improve their livelihoods through engaging in animal fattening side by side with agriculture.
It said activities are underway to enable the farmers and semi-pastoralists fatten and supply to market over 73,000 animals during the current Ethiopian budget year.
The department said they are estimated to secure over 270 million Birr from sale of the stated number of animals.
Two of the beneficiaries, Demissie Baynezi and Meshesha Mero said support of the government and development agents helped them to become successful in their activities.
