Humera February 24/2013 More than 120,000 people are undertaking soil and water conservation activity on over 11,000 hectares land in Western Tigray Zone, the zonal agriculture and rural development department said.
Natural resource conservation team leader with the department, Mebrahtu Tesfay said on Sunday that the soil and water conservation activity is being carried out through a campaign beginning from last Monday.
Mebrahtu said construction of terraces and gabion walls is underway as part of the soil and water conservation activity.
Terraces are also constructed on 500 hectares land through a campaign launched in connection with the 38th founding anniversary of the TPLF and to commemorate the late PM Meles Zenawi and others, who sacrificed their lives for their country, he said.
