Agency: Ethiopia appealing investment destination

  Addis Ababa February 24/2013 Ethiopia is becoming an appealing investment destination in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Ethiopian Investment Agency said. Public Relation Coordination Head with the Agency, Getahun Negash told ENA over the weekend that the country is taking the lead in attracting investment from time to time. Getahun said the prevailing reliable peace, existing sound investment policy, availability of market and adequate human resource contributed share in the efforts of the country to attract more investment. In addition the unwavering social, economic and political situation helped the country to attract more investment from Europe and Asia, among others. He said in particular availability of appropriate legal protection and guarantees under the Ethiopian legal system helped to increase investment flow and brought about growth in the number of foreign investors. More than 6000 projects worth 391 billion Birr were licensed during the last 20 years in the country, the head said, adding some 2290 of the stated number of projects have already gone operational. Getahun said the Agency is finalizing preparation to launch a one-stop investment services center in the current Ethiopian year with a view to further strengthening the investment sector. The center will significantly contribute to provide efficient services to investors, he said.
