Ethiopia, UNCTAD sign technical cooperation agreement

  Addis Ababa February 13/2013 Ethiopia and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on 7 February 2013 signed a technical cooperation agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. According to a statement the Ministry sent to ENA on Wednesday, the objective of the agreement is to cooperate in developing a strategy and transformation study of the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise. The statement said the Ethiopian government is taking an extensive reform program to bolster the Enterprise's capacity with state-of-the-art shipping and logistics management and operations system. It said UNCTAD will provide technical assistance to the Enterprise and support the transformation of the institution that is competitive, efficient, and reliable in shipping, logistics port and terminal services. UNCTAD will hold capacity building workshops in various selected topics. Ambassador Menelik Alemu Getahun, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia to the UN in Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland signed the agreement, which will be implemented from March 2013 to December 2013, according to the statement.
