Residents vow to support Miesso-Diredawa-Dewele railway construction

  DireDawa February 11/2013 Executives, elders and religious leaders and residents in Shinile Zone vowed to contribute share towards success of construction of the 340km Miesso-Diredawa-Dewele railway project launched with 1.8 billion USD. Speaking at a relevant discussion forum in connection with the project, they said the railway will significantly contribute towards socio-economic development in the area. They said they will discharge their responsibility through providing the necessary support towards construction of the project. The project will help to supply products to market and transport goods to the area, they said. Ethiopian Railways Corporation Deputy General-Manager and infrastructure development Section Head, Eng. Debo Tunka on his part said the project is part of the main tasks being executed by the government to interconnect different parts of the country through modern electric railway transportation. Eng. Debo also called on residents of the area to contribute share towards success of construction of the project. The project, being undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), will be finalized within 42 months. The Project, which is part of the Addis Ababa-Dire Dawa-Djibouti Railway Project, provides both passenger and freight transportation services. It is financed by the Ethiopian government and loan from the Chinese government.
