Chiro February 11/2013More than 90,000 farmers are developing over 60,652 hectares land through irrigation in West Hararge Zone, Oromia State, the zonal agriculture department office said.
The office told ENA that the farmers are developing the stated area of land by making use of 527 water pumping machines and over 1000 water wells.
It said the farmers are cultivating vegetables and fruits, among others, on the stated area of land.
Some of the farmers, Mohammed Ibrahim and Meyrem Abdela said they managed to improve their livelihoods through engaging in irrigation development, which helped them to harvest up to three times a year.
