Chiro February 10/2013 More than 10 million select coffee seedlings are prepared for transplantation in West Hararge Zone, Oromia State in the efforts to expand coffee development, the zonal agriculture development office said.
Coffee expert with the office, Manbegrot Kebede said the seedlings will be transplanted on 7117 hectares land.
The expert said the area of land covered with coffee plantation will grow to 82,000 hectares from 75,000 hectares following transplantation of the seedlings.
A farmer engaged in coffee growing, Abdela Beker, on his part said he is striving to expand coffee development, which helps to secure foreign currency.
He also said that he managed to improve his livelihood through engaging in coffee development.
Ethiopia’s Kaffa Region is the birthplace of coffee. The name coffee is derived from Kaffa.
