Amhara collects 298,100 taxpayers’ fingerprints

  Bahir Dar February 08/2013 Amhara State Branch Office of the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority said it has managed to collect finger prints of more than 298,000 tax payers over the past two years. The Office Director, Asmamaw Maru told ENA that the Office has managed to collect the fingerprints of taxpayers in 14 towns in the region. More than 192,800 of the stated number of tax payers are business persons while the rest are civil servants and students of governmental universities enrolled in the cost sharing programs, he said. Asmamaw said this will enable the State to implement uniform tax system and control tax evasion. Collecting fingerprints of taxpayers is part of Ethiopia’s plan to modernize its tax system started in 2009 in Addis Ababa under the National Identification System (NIS) project.
