Jijiga February 07/2013 More than 500 million Birr revenue was collected from various income titles in Somali Regional State during the first six months of this fiscal year, the regional administration said.
Speaking at the opening of a relevant meeting in Jijiga Town on Wednesday, State Deputy Chief, Abdifetah Mohamud Hassan said the amount exceeds the set target and that of last year same period by 250 million Birr and 300 million Birr, respectively.
The stated amount will enable the State to cover 19 percent of its annual budget by itself from the previous 13 percent, he said.
He attributed the success to the tax system reform program being implemented in the State since this fiscal year.
More than 100 participants drawn from tax collectors at the regional and woreda level attended the daylong meeting organized in connection to the 6th tax week.
