Japan signs grant contracts with associations

  Addis Ababa February 06/2013 The Japanese government here Wednesday signed a total of 306,904 USD grant contracts for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with three associations, the Embassy of Japan said. The grant contracts were signed with the Friendship Support Association from Afar Region, Derashe People's Development Association from South Ethiopia Peoples' State and Aba Woldetensae Gizaw Mothers and Children Welfare Association from Addis Ababa. Minister and Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy, Hajime Kitaoka and representatives of the respective associations signed the contracts. Some 101,042 USD of the stated sum will be used to construct buildings for a primary school in Afar Region while 121,148 USD will go for expansion of a school in Derashe Woreda. The remaining 84,714 USD will also be used to improve sanitation and hygiene in Bole Bulbula Woreda of the capital. Hajime Kitaoka on the occasion said that all GGP projects are conducive to the empowerment of vulnerable and marginalized people and urged project partners for timely implementation. Over 300 projects have been implemented under this scheme in such sectors as education, water supply, health services and other basic human needs.
