Adama February 2/2013 A foundation stone was laid to upgrade the Adama referral hospital in Adama Town, Oromia State with over 800 million Birr.
Speaking on the occasion, State Health Bureau Head, Shalo Daba said upgrading of the hospital will be carried out in four phases.
He said the first phase of upgrading of the hospital will be launched in this fiscal year at a cost of 300 million Birr.
The number of beds in the hospital will be increased to 1,200 from the current 200 upon completion of the upgrading work.
Health State Minister, Dr Kebede Worku on his part said the hospital has been providing service to more than five million people for over 60 years.
When established in 1938 EC, the hospital had only 40 beds.
