Ethiopia, Bahrain agree to strengthen bilateral relation

  Addis Ababa January 29/2013 Ethiopia and Bahrain agreed to further strengthen bilateral relation and work together in different sectors. Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom discussed with his Bahrain counterpart Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The Ministers said that they have agreed to further boost the Ethio-Bahrain overall relation. Dr. Tedros on the occasion urged the Bahrain Minister to contribute share towards enabling Bahrain investors engage in different investment activities in Ethiopia. According to Acting Director-General of the Asia Affairs with the Ministry Dr. Abdulkadir Rizku, trade balance between the two countries is in favor of Bahrain. Dr. Abdulkadir said Ethiopia exports marble and oil seeds to Bahrain and imports machinery, spare parts from that country. The Bahrain Minister on his part vowed to exert efforts to enable Bahrain's investors engage in different activities in Ethiopia. The ministers also exchanged views on issues related to Ethiopian domestic workers in Bahrain and reached agreement on preparing a draft document that enables to ensure the rights of Ethiopian domestic workers in Bahrain. Ethiopia will prepare and send the document to the Bahrain government soon. Over 5000 Ethiopian domestic workers are estimated to live in Bahrain at present. Diplomatic relation between Ethiopia and Bahrain was launched in 2003.
