Addis Ababa January 26/2013 The 14th Pastoralists’ Day was celebrated colorfully on Friday in Yabello Town, Borena Zone of Oromia State, 575km away from Addis Ababa.
Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn on the occasion said infrastructure development is underway in pastoral areas in the country.
The Premier said the government is committed to finalize within two years and a half various projects launched in pastoral areas as per the Growth and Transformation Plan.
He stressed the need for pastoralists to contribute share towards success of the Plan.
Federal Affairs Minister, Dr. Shiferaw Teklemariam on his part said pastoralists have managed to lead steady life and engage in irrigation development.
Dr. Shiferaw said over two million Birr budget is allocated annually to improve the livelihoods of pastoralists.
State Chief, Abdulaziz Mohammed also said encouraging activities are undertaken in pastoral areas in the areas of education, health, safe water provision and agriculture, among others.
Afar regional state will host the 15th Pastoralists’ Day.
The 13th Pastoralists Day was celebrated in Jinka Town, South Omo Zone of South Ethiopia Peoples’ State.
