Zone to undertake natural resource conservation campaign

  Ambo January 23/2013 Agriculture Office of West Shoa Zone in Oromia State said it will undertake a month-long natural resource conservation campaign on 223,000 hectares land beginning from 28 January 2013. Office Representative, Teshome Guta told ENA on Tuesday that more than 86,600 farmers will take part in the campaign, which will be carried out on the stated area of land in 528 rural localities. The activities include building of terraces and ditches as well as soil and water conservation. Teshome said more than 366 million tree seedlings will be transplanted on more than 32,850 hectares land as part of the activities. Natural resource conservation activities had been undertaken on more than 52,000 hectares land. Some 350 million tree seedlings were also transplanted through a similar campaign last year.
