Nation constructs, upgrades 5,950-km roads

  Addis Ababa January 21/2013 Construction, upgrading and rehabilitation of more than 5,950-km roads has been undertaken at a cost of 9.8 billion Birr over the past six months, the Ethiopian Roads Authority said. Authority Public Relation Director, Samson Wondimu told ENA on Monday that construction of six road projects, which cover more than 445-km was also completed. The Assossa-Kurmuk, Hargele, Shashemene-Wondogenet-Gemeto and Maitsemri- Dima roads are among the completed projects. Some 90 percent of the cost for construction of the roads has been covered by the Ethiopian government, he said. He said the Authority has set target to construct and upgrade more than 19,870-km roads with an outlay of 22.9 billion Birr.
