ADDIS ABABA January 21/2013 Ethiopia's three-time Olympic Champion Tirunesh Dibaba will race over Two Miles at the 2013 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on 2 February 2013, an IAAF Indoor Permit meeting, organizers announced last Friday.
“I’m looking forward to launching my 2013 season in one of my favorite cities,” said Tirunesh, one of the most-decorated female athletes in the history of the sport.
The World indoor best for Two Miles is held by Tirunesh’s compatriot and Meseret Defar, who ran 9:06.26 in 2009.
Now 27, Tirunesh has become a familiar sight at the Boston meeting over the years, the Ethiopian superstar began her comeback from long-term injury here last year a campaign that culminated in her winning two Olympic medals in London – gold at 10000m and then bronze at 5000m – to add to the two victories she achieved at those distances in Beijing four years earlier.
The versatile distance star has also earned a total of eight senior World titles on the track and at cross country. She currently owns the outdoor 5000m World record.
