Debre Birehan January 18/2013 The Debre Birehan University in Amhara State said it has begun preparation to launch a research center, which aims to identify the main types of drugs and alcohol, which cause addiction. Speaking at a relevant seminar held in Debre Birehan Town, University Academic Vice President, Dr. Tamre Zewde said the center aims to conduct various researches which will help to solve problems related to addiction and alcoholism in universities. Dr. Tamre said the University has been organizing awareness raising programs in a bid to solving the social, psychological and economic impacts of addiction among the public. The increase in the number of drug users around universities forced the university to consider opening a research center, which deals with the sources of the problem, he said. The center is expected to identify the common sources of addiction, which lead to school dropout , cause complicated health problems and slow down the country's economic development.
