Farmers earn 4.7 mln Birr from sale of hides, skins

  Ambo January 16/2013 More than 8000 farmers in West Shoa Zone of Oromia State earned over 4.7 million Birr through supplying over 100,000 hides and skins to the central market during the last six months, the zonal animal resource development and health office said. Office Representative, Dr. Segni Shimeles told ENA on Tuesday that the stated number of farmers in 18 woredas of the zone earned the stated sum. Dr. Segni said development agents are providing relevant awareness raising training to the farmers with a view to enabling them keep the quality of hides and skins. The number of hides and skins supplied to the market is double that of same time last year, he said, adding, the income also increased by two million Birr compared to same period in the previous year. The representative said activities are underway to supply 280,000 hides and skins to the market in the current Ethiopian year.
