Ginbi January 13/2013 The public in West Wollega Zone, Oromia State bought over four million Birr worth bonds during the last six months for construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, zonal government communication affairs offfice said.
Office deputy head, Solomon Tamiru said they bought the bond after holding discussion on the issue.
Government employees, members of youth and women's associations as well as farmers bought the bonds for the same purpose.
Activities are underway to enable all residents of the zone hold similar discussion and buy the bonds during the coming six months, Solomon said.
With a capacity to generate 6,000 MW electric power, the dam, which is being constructed in Benishangul Gumuz State, will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed.
Ethiopia covers the entire cost for construction of the Dam by itself.
